How Do You Carry Yourself?

They say you can tell a lot about a person by the watch and shoes they wear...

Actually, the real statement sounds fancier and is better worded but you get the idea. The first time I ever heard that statement was years ago from one of our interns while we were working an event promoting our backpacks. So that got me thinking, why aren't bags included!? Since we're backpack guys, we're gonna go ahead and “officially” add “bag” into the mix of that statement.

I've thought a lot about this statement and I think the word “wear” is a bit weak and one-dimensional. I think the word “carry” is a better way to word this, the idea of carrying is more in depth and shows how you choose to “carry” yourself, not just what you wear. Therefore, I think a better way to say this is...

“You can tell a lot about someone by the way they carry themselves”.

A watch shows how you carry time, shoes carry you, your bag is an extension of you and how you choose carry, protect and organize what's important to you.

I'm not going to dive to much into the shoe thing, as I've carried myself throughout most of my life in Vans since grade-school. Don't get me wrong, I love my Vans, but Vans are really common and I don't think I need to spotlight them in how I carry myself. So instead, I'll look at the two areas I'm obsessed with- watches and bags. I've always loved watches and, obviously, bags. Since my childhood, I've gone through countless of both and tried too many to count. I'll spare you from a long list of what watches and bags I've carried in the past and focus on what I'm carrying now.

The Watch I Carry Daily

The amount of great products in the men's watches “ocean” is vast. I'm always digging around for great watches so I looked across the ocean to an awesome London based brand I stumbled into called Lord Timepieces. At first glance, I was seriously impressed with the simplicity and precision in their designs. Plus almost every men's watch they make is under $100US and they ship worldwide for free. SOLD.

I got their classic black on black because I love simple and clean design above all. It's hard to get much simpler than this watch design and it looks damn good in just about any situation. You can wear this watch with a suit or jeans and a t-shirt and it'll look appropriate with either. Plus, to my surprise, the watch is much thinner than I expected so it doesn't feel bulky or chunky on your wrist like some watches do. All in all, this is one of my favorite “go-to's” and the watch I've been carrying my time with almost every day since I got it. I love the way this simple black on black watch looks with...

The Bag I carry

I have a lot of bag options but I always seem to gravitate back to my CO.ALITION Federal pack in cement. Like the classic Lord Timepiece watch this bag it too hard to put down. The clean design fits with almost any type of clothing and situation. The simple design doesn't sacrifice any function, I pack in this bag for my everyday carry and as a weekender bag when I'm on the move. The shape of the bag sits flat when I'm not carrying much but expands well when I need to pack an extra change of clothes. The clamshell zipper let's me pack it up like a suitcase so I can easily organize and access all my stuff. The built-in smart power supply is also simple, lightweight and always there when I need some extra juice on my phone. I love that it's out of sight when I'm not using it and all I have to do is plug into the phone cable I have wired into the bag and it'll just charge. There's no on/off switches, it just works, it's always there and I never have to remove it.

At this time, the Lord Timepieces Classic watch and my Federal backpack are a staple for me to carry myself throughout each day. Between these two things, They look great together plus I'm carrying time, power and everything else that's important for my day-to-day.
